A conversation with Travis Branham on Cherif Millogo and UK’s potential 2027 class

Kentucky landed a big one on the recruiting trail Wednesday morning with a commitment from Cherif Millogo, who has emerged over the past few months as perhaps the most intriguing prospect in all of high school basketball.

Millogo, who's listed anywhere from 7-3 to 7-5 and is purported to have a 7-8 wingspan, has been one of the fastest-rising recruits in the 2027 class, and that trajectory is expected to continue over the course of his senior season of high school.

247Sports national analyst Travis Branham sat down with Inside Kentucky Basketball this week to discuss Millogo’s commitment to UK and his long-term potential, at one point calling the Burkina Faso native a potential lottery pick in the NBA draft and a player who could rise to the very top of the 2027 rankings. “Honestly, from a sheer natural talent perspective, you could make a case for him being No. 1,” Branham said of Millogo's place in the 2027 class.

Those are eyebrow-raising words coming from a talent evaluator who steers clear of hyperbole, though Branham does have some questions regarding Millogo, who has missed considerable time during his high school career due to a knee injury and has not played in many high-profile evaluation settings.

Branham also discussed Kentucky’s overall approach to the 2027 high school recruiting cycle, with a look at potential additions for the future and how UK’s efforts with this group of prospects could shape next season’s roster.
